Instructions on how to add music to either the With_Teeth or Year Zero screensavers.
What you will need:
A. Your With Teeth or Year Zero CD, or mp3 files (also, the bonus With Teeth song "Home" is great to have, but not necessary)
B. Sound editing software that can convert mp3 format to ogg format
I suggest Gold Wave, as you can get it in a free trial downlod that allows you to do everything you need to do.
I will be using Gold Wave in this tutorial.
Instructions
Note: These instructions are assuming that you have already extracted (unzipped) all of the files from WithTeeth.zip or YearZero.zip into a folder on your hard drive
Step 1) Insert your With Teeth or Year Zero CD, and rip the music to your computer, or locate the files on your computer. Format should not be a problem, but I suggest mp3 or wma so that you are sure your computer and sound editing software can use the files.
In the case that you are using With Teeth, make sure you have, or get the song "Home" on your computer as well (this is not necessary, just a bonus).
The Gold Wave sound editing software works with mp3, wav, wma, flac, and other various formats.
Step 2) Open your sound editing software (I recommend, and will be using Gold Wave)
If you are not using Gold Wave, all I can tell you is to open up your sound editing software and convert all the music files to .ogg format. The quality of the file does not matter as far as I know, though there may be problems with abnormal file quality types. Once your files are converted, place them into the same folder you extracted the screensaver's .zip file into. Then skip down to the naming conventions on Step 14.
Step 3) Click on File -> Batch Processing [SCREENSHOT]
Step 4) Click on Add Files [SCREENSHOT]
Step 5) Locate your With_Teeth or Year Zero mp3 files on your hard drive, select all of the tracks, and click Open. [SCREENSHOT]
If following the instructions for the With_Teeth screen saver, be sure that if you have the song "Home," you add that one as well... though it is not necessary.
Step 6) Check to make sure that all the songs have been added to the list of "Files and Folders to process."
Step 7) Click on the "Convert" tab, then make sure the "Convert files to this format" checkbox is checked. Click it if it is not.
Step 8) Click on the "Save as type" pull-down menu, and then select "Ogg (*.ogg) <Ogg File>" [SCREENSHOT]
Step 9) Click on the "Attributes" pull-down menu, and then select the sound quality you would like to use.
Personally, I used 44100Hz, 128kbps, stereo. [EXAMPLE SCREENSHOT]
Step 10) Click on the tab "Folder," [a] and then click on the "Store all files in this folder:" [b] radio button. From there, click on the folder icon on the right side of text box.[c] [SCREENSHOT]
Step 11) From here, locate where you extracted your WithTeeth.zip or YearZero.zip on the folder browser. Then click "Ok." [EXAMPLE SCREENSHOT]
Step 12) From here, double check to make sure you did all of the steps above, and then click on "Begin"
Step 13) Wait until the Batch Processing is completed... depending on your computer's processing speed it could take some time. Once finished, you can now exit out of GoldWave.
Step 14) Open up the folder where you extracted your zip file, and your newly converted .ogg music files. [SCREENSHOT]
Step 15) Here we need to rename all of the .ogg music files to match the naming conventions I lazilly created in these screensavers. Below is a list of all the file names for the With_Teeth and Year Zero screen savers:
| Track Number | File Name (With_Teeth) | File Name (Year Zero) |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 01 Track 01.ogg | 01 HYPERPOWER!.ogg |
| 2 | 02 Track 02.ogg | 01 The Beginning of the End.ogg |
| 3 | 03 Track 03.ogg | 01 Survivalism.ogg |
| 4 | 04 Track 04.ogg | 01 The Good Soldier.ogg |
| 5 | 05 Track 05.ogg | 01 Vessel.ogg |
| 6 | 06 Track 06.ogg | 01 Me, I'm Not.ogg |
| 7 | 07 Track 07.ogg | 01 Capital G.ogg |
| 8 | 08 Track 08.ogg | 01 My Violent Heart.ogg |
| 9 | 09 Track 09.ogg | 01 The Warning.ogg |
| 10 | 10 Track 10.ogg | 01 God Given.ogg |
| 11 | 11 Track 11.ogg | 01 Meet Your Master.ogg |
| 12 | 12 Track 12.ogg | 01 The Greater Good.ogg |
| 13 | 13 Track 13.ogg | 01 The Great Destroyer.ogg |
| 14 (or Home) | Track 99Home.ogg | 01 Another Version of the Truth.ogg |
| 15 | n/a | 01 In This Twilight.ogg |
| 16 | n/a | 01 Zero-Sum.ogg |
Yes, "01" is at the start of every Year Zero track. I was too lazy to change it when I programmed the Screen Saver...
16) To rename a file, you Right-Click on the file, and then click on "Rename" from the drop down menu. You then type in your new file name, and then press enter. Do this with all of the .ogg music files, and type in the names detailed above. [SCREENSHOT]
NOTE: If your computer does NOT display the ".ogg" extension on the end of each file before you start renaming them, do NOT add ".ogg" to the end of any of your music files, or in all likelyhood it will not work.
17) Once all of the files are renamed, and match the file names in the table above, test out your new screensaver! You can either Double-Click on the screensaver's icon in that same folder you were just working in, or go into your computer's screen saver settings and click on "Preview." Either way, once in the screensaver, pan the camera around using your arrow keys, and test to make sure all of the songs are playing in their rightful positions on the background.
